Looking for some Leprechaun Fun for St. Patrick’s Day with your firsties or kinders? Even your second graders would like creating this fraction leprechaun!
Here are some tips for implementation of these shenanigans!
- Have your students to color their blank leprechaun before you reveal to them that they will be making a fraction leprechaun! If you tell or show them too early then they will make their own half and half version.
- Encourage them to color their leprechaun with colors beyond the traditional colors if you don’t want to end up with a lot of similar looking half and half leprechauns.
- Once the leprechaun is fully colored in, they should cut around the outside of the leprechaun.
- Then they (or I) cut it vertically in half along the line going up the middle (it’s kind of hard to see, but it’s there). If I cut the fraction leprechaun, I use a paper cutter.
- Have them each KEEP their left half and swap their right half (the half with their smile) with a classmate.
- Assemble their new leprechaun onto 9×12 construction paper or my favorite Astrobrights. When I know I’ll be using Astrobrights as the mounting paper, I set the leprechaun and labels to print at 85-90% so that there’s enough space on the mounting paper.
- Name their little Leprechaun & add their own names to the label.
